Hi Brian,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

"1. Enable wifi on the Blackberry, making certain that it is using the same wifi network as the one your computer is using." I did this, my network address for my windows computer is 192.168.10.193. The network address for my Blackberry Z10, as shown in Desktop Connect is http://192.168.10.249:8080

"2. Open HanDBase on the Blackberry." Done

"3. Switch to the database selection screen." Done

"4. Tap the Connect button, which resembles two circular arrows." Done

"5. Open HanDBase Desktop on your computer." Done - I am using the Android Demo version. I also have the versions for Palm (my old Treo), Windows Mobile (my old HP2495), and Blackberry (Bold 9900) but am using the Android Demo version of HanDBase Desktop to try and connect to my Z10

"6. Select the Configure / Android Users menu option." Done

"7. Select the option to set up a new partnership. When prompted select the Wifi option. Enter a name for the Blackberry and continue with entering the address shown on the screen of the phone." I did select the wifi option. However, the Android Demo version of HanDBase Desktop does not give me the option of entering a name for my Z10. It only gives me the following Error message - Could not get Device name from device. Either the device is not running desktop connect, it's not running on the same wifi network as this computer, or the device's address was not valid.

I did check my dlink wireless router and can confirm that my computer is logged onto the router (192.168.10.193) as is my Z10 (192.168.10.249). The problem seems to be in retrieving the device name. The location of the deviceid.txt file on my Z10 is device/misc/android/HanDBase/info. The device id in that file is c5ee39960d34f64.d.

"At this point the partnership should be created and the first sync should proceed." Getting close! Is the problem in the Android demo version of HanDBase Desktop? Does the regular version have the option of entering a name for my Z10?

Many thanks!!

Thanks for following up. It looks like, as you suggested, the device name is not being read properly. I am going to touch base with Dave to see if he has any ideas on how to trick the system to get this working. He is with family this week, so it may be a couple of days til I have an answer for you, though.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for getting back to me. Hopefully the following will help. I have been using the Android Demo Desktop to try and sync with my Z10. Are there differences between the Demo version and the full version that would cause the sync problems that I have been having?

"1. Enable wifi on the Blackberry, making certain that it is using the same wifi network as the one your computer is using." Have done so. According to my dlink router, my Windows 7 machine is connected at 192.168.10.243 and my Z10 is connected at 191.168.10.249:8080

"2. Open HanDBase on the Blackberry." Done

"3. Switch to the database selection screen." Done

"4. Tap the Connect button, which resembles two circular arrows." Done

"5. Open HanDBase Desktop on your computer." Done

"6. Select the Configure / Android Users menu option." Done

"7. Select the option to set up a new partnership. When prompted select the Wifi option. Enter a name for the Blackberry and continue with entering the address shown on the screen of the phone. " Done - The AndroidDemo Desktop does not give me an entry screen/option to enter a name for my Blackberry. Instead, it gives me the following error message: "Could not get Device name from Device. Either the device is not running desktop connect, it's not running on the same wifi network as this computer, or the device's address was not valid." The AndroidDemo Desktop does ask me to enter the wifi address shown in the Android HanDBase client (http://192.168.10.249:8080.

"8. At this point the partnership should be created and the first sync should proceed." No partnership created, only the error message regarding the inability to get the Device Name etc.

The HanDBase folder on my Blackberry Z10 is found on the Z10 (not on the sd storage card) at device/misc/android/HanDBase. The deviceid.txt file is found at device/misc/android/HanDBase/info and the device name contained in deviceid.txt is c5ee39960d34f64d.

I had hoped to be able to set the sync up using the Android Demo Deskop first to see how everything worked and then purchase a copy of the regular Android Desktop once I knew all was working. However, if the problem is with the Demo version, I will happily purchase the regular Android Desktop and work with it.

Many thanks!

Hi Brian,

I just did a screen refresh and discovered that I had inadvertently posted essentially the same comment twice and that you, quite correctly, had already responded to my first posting.

Thanks again for your assistance and patience!

Hi,

Thanks for following up. Unfortunately I do not have a good answer as to why the conduit is not seeing the file right now, other than it seems that it must have something to do with how the Blackberry emulates the Android file system.

Dave is unavailable this week but once I can visit with him (next week) I should at least have more information about why the sync is failing.

Sorry I can't be of more help until then.

I am just a user and do not have a BlackBerry, but do have an Android. If it helps, on my device the deviceid.txt file is located on the device (not the sdcard) in the folder:

/storage/emulated/0/HanDBase/Info

Note the initial capital on "Info". Not sure if this would make a difference, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to try it until the DDH Software folks are available.

Good morning,

I did go through these steps:

"1. Enable wifi on the Blackberry, making certain that it is using the same wifi network as the one your computer is using.
2. Open HanDBase on the Blackberry.
3. Switch to the database selection screen.
4. Tap the Connect button, which resembles two circular arrows.
5. Open HanDBase Desktop on your computer.
6. Select the Configure / Android Users menu option.
7. Select the option to set up a new partnership. When prompted select the Wifi option. Enter a name for the Blackberry and continue with entering the address shown on the screen of the phone. "

The problem appears to be that there is no provision to enter a name for the Blackberry. Consequently, there was no connection and no sychronization.

It may be that the folders on the Android version are positioned differently than on the Blackberry 10.

Thanks again for your assistance

Hi,

Unfortunately we don't have access to any Blackberry devices to test this on. Regarding syncing, I don't suspect this will work due to the different file structures.
