ActiveSync for user: <no user detected>

Postby cenzer » Thu May 06, 2010 9:12 pm

I had to reformat laptop:
XP Pro SP2
Desktop HandBase 4.1.0
iPaq HandBase 4.1.0
HP iPaq rx 3715
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Version 4.21.1088
(Build 14132)

I ran Setup without any errors.

After ActiveSyncing, I found no PDB files on hard drive.

The Synch log:
ActiveSync for user: <no user detected>
Synchronization started on Thu May 06 09:54:02 PM
2010-05-06 21-53-54: HanDBase error syncing 'AdmitOrders_1_0':
- Could not save Database to desktop destination: C:\Program Files\HanDBase4\ActiveSync\<no user detected>\StorageCard_20080604_170454_PocketPC\AdmitOrders_1_0.pdb
2010-05-06 21-53-55: HanDBase error syncing '5 Axis Diagnoses':
- Could not save Database to desktop destination:

I uninstalled the Desktop and installed many times:

Declining to load anything to the Mobile
Loading the Program to the Mobile SD Card -- where it was before reformatting the laptop

Thank you.

I now can Synch -- failed to look at Mobile Screen asking to be installed.

But now I get this error after Synching:

ActiveSync for user: PocketPC
Synchronization started on Thu May 06 11:47:22 PM
Warning: device not properly identified. Multi-device syncing may be a problem.
2010-05-06 23-47-22: 1 HanDBase database synchronized (4.02)
Synchronization ended on Thu May 06 11:47:22 PM

Thank you.
Thank you.

Hi there,

Did you name your device 'PocketPC'? I believe that the warning you get comes from the fact that this is the default name for devices, and the warning is basically saying that since the name may not be unique, you may want to come up with unique names for your devices. You can do this in the start menu|settings section. I believe the setting is called Owner Name and if it's blank, the name gets reported back as PocketPC. So you should consider changing that name and trying again- you should get a new folder with the name and then the warning should go away!

Thank you for the reply.

I have been using PocketPC for many years -- ever since I began with version 2.x.

I have never had this "error" message.

And now, it is only on the Laptop; not on the Desktop machine:

ActiveSync for user: PocketPC
2010-05-07 18-10-32: 75 HanDBase databases synchronized (4.02)

Thank you.
Thank you.

I believe that's the reason for the message, not sure if we always reported that as a warning or not, but as long as it's your only device, it shouldn't matter. Just verify that your databases are backed up properly and you should be able to safely ignore if you'd like!

Dear David:

I opted to load HanDBase onto the SD Card.

Where should my 40 databases on the mobile go?

HanDBase.exe is in "\SD Card\DDH Software HanDBase 4"

In what folder do the databases go:

On the Desktop
On the Mobile

Mobile Menu has both:

HanDBase 4.1
HanDBase

Thank you.
Thank you.

Your warning message may be related to that fact- the app is supposed to be installed in RAM, and then you can put the databases either on the card or in RAM. My suggestion would be to reinstall the program to RAM.

As far as the database paths,HanDBase will not be able to see databases stored just anywhere on your memory card. You will first need to set up the card to enable HanDBase to see the databases. To do this you will first need to create a new My Documents folder on the card. Then in that My Documents folder you will need to create a HanDBase folder. Place your databases in there to be seen by HanDBase!

Dear David:

On the Mobile, I have 19 database files when I open HDb.

I can find all of the 76 files when I browse to "\My Documents\HanDBase"

All of the 76 files are in the Browse Window on the Desktop.

How do I install the remaining files?

I did try [Install] from the Desktop -- but they don't show up in the Mobile's [Open Database] window.

Thank you.

Is it possible these databases are pre HanDBase 3.0? If so, the mobile won't see them until they are updated to 3.0 or 4.0 format. One other thing- are you sure you have the category set to 'all'? Maybe you are only seeing the subset that match the current category selection!

Dear David:

You nailed it:

Instead of [All], the handheld opened to [unfiled].

We are fortunate to have:

Your patience
Your thoroughness
Your courtesy
Thank you.
