cross platform multi sync

Postby gsman » Sun Feb 16, 2014 3:50 pm

I see I can send my android files to my dropbox account. What I am not seeing is how to implement syncing my 3 devices.
1. Windows PC with my Access database. / Handbase Desktop
2. Galaxy Note 3 phone
3. Galaxy Tab 3 7" tablet

From what I am reading Handbase itself does not yet have solution to keep all synchronized.
But there is a work around with "Folder Sync" App to get this achieved.
Is there a write up / tutorial of how to set this up?

When using FolderSync, here is how to set it up:

1. Open FolderSync
2. Tap on Folder Pairs
3. Tap on ADD FOLDERPAIR
4. Assign a name for the pairing
5. Choose an account (Dropbox should be the default)
6. Select the remote folder in your Dropbox account
7. Select the local folder (it will need to be the HanDBase folder on the Android's storage)
8. Select the sync type
9. Select a schedule if you want (I run mine manually via a shortcut)
10. Select the sync options you want
11. Tap SAVE

It is important to note that this sync is file level, not record level.

Hi Brian:
So regarding my sync to my Access database - my extrapolation is.....
I should make sure my 2 android devices are up to date via Folder Sync..... and then do a regular Access wireless sync as I normally do.... all devices are now up to date - correct?
Anything to add?

Hi,

Thanks for following up.

Regarding FolderSync, I encourage using it to keep the databases on the Android devices in sync. Of course, you need to keep in mind the limitations of FolderSync (it is file level, versus field level, since Dropbox (or another service of your choosing) works at the file level).

Regarding Access, you would then perform your regular syncs with your Android devices, just as you have been doing.
