transfer vs sync for an edited database

Discussion of the version of HanDBase that runs on the iPhone and iPod touch devices. This includes the synchronization conduits as well.

transfer vs sync for an edited database

I'm planning to export one of my databases to Excel to do some editing (merging of fields and creating a new field). After I reimport it to Handbase (into a current database) is it better to "transfer" the file back to my iTouch or is it better to simply sync the two. Am I correct in assuming that a sync is a "merge" and a transfer is an "overwrite"? If I "transfer" I'll be careful to not make any changes to the iTouch that might be lost.

Hi Chris,

Indeed that is correct. Though if you make changes to the structure of the database on the desktop or the handheld, the conduit is smart enough to notice and decide which one is newer. Instead of losing the old one, it archives it and settles on a single version moving forward. So either way you decide to do things, it should work just fine!
