simple budget tool

Postby oklord » Tue Mar 17, 2015 8:38 pm

It's been awhile. I'm wondering if I can do the following?

I have a database with budget categories about 15 records with field names
CATEGORY and AMT and TOTAL

I would like to create a form that has a button that could do the following:
When the button is clicked then
Ask User if they want to add this week's budget amounts? Yes/No
If no then quit back to the form
If Yes then go to the first record and replace TOTAL with TOTAL + AMT
Then skip to Next record til end of file.

I also need to show somehow all the records in the form specifically
CATEGORY and TOTAL
I also need to add each record's TOTAL field up and display a Grand Total on
the form.

Someone suggested the following but I need more details as I'm new to all this.

Based on what you have described, you could do the following:

- Add calculated fields to your database that adds the total and
amount values together, creating a running total for the values in
your database.
- Create a new form for your database that two buttons on it, one
labeled "Yes" and the other "No".
- Configure the "No" button to have the action to exit/quit.
- Add a button to your original form, configuring it to jump to the
newly created "Yes / No" form.
- Create an additional form that shows the running total calculated
fields and other relevant data
- Go back to the "Yes / No" form and configure the "Yes" action to
jump to the last of the newly created forms

Thanks so much in advance.
