Date into note

Date into note???

I don’t think this can be done, but if it can, please let me know how.

My database is a list of locations and information about that location.
There are several fields, and one is a note field I keep a list of dates I have visited that location.
I would like to have a way to ask for a date and add that date to the list of dates (in the note field) I’ve visited the location so I will have a good history of visitations.

I would have to create I form I would guess to make this work if it will work. Can this be done?

I would be better at recording this information if I didn’t have to type it in and could just select the date and have it added to the list.

Thanks anyone...

Hey Glen,

For some reason I thought I had posted a response to your question but just checking now I see I hadn't - very sorry about that!

There isn't a way to insert a date into a note field (other than by typing it out of course). Back in the palm days they supported shortcuts that made inserting the current date quite easy- hard to believe this feature isn't in iOS - seems quite useful!

But perhaps your database can be structured differently such that this is a non-issue. For example if you had a related visits table and each time you go to the location you hit a link button to add a new visit, that visit table could auto populate with the current date in a date field and leave a spot for notes for that specific date, and anything else you may want to track. Worth considering!

Thanks, your suggestion sounds good. Knowledge into implementing it is lacking. I can understand the examples about relationships, but implementing them into something original is difficult.

I think you are saying:
--The Location file (with 65 locations) is in the background file.
--The Visits file is the front end and every visit generates a record adding the date and notes, with a relationship button that grabs the location name from the location file.

But, I don’t see how this helps me jump to the location file and pull the specific location back because I believe that I have to have something identical in each file that the two files link with. What is that? What I want to bring over is the location which is one of many. Reading Article 195 I have to have identical items in both tables to compare. What do I compare?

Table Visits Table Locations
get location from —> location name
date GPS
note other items listed as part of each loc.

I seem to be lost, so any hints on what to do next would be great.
