HELP re Image field type & Image Library ??

Okay! have been ignoring this area for a long time.

Where can I access complete documentation discussing the "Image" field type and the "HanDBase Image Library"?

I have done some due-diligence searching here in the Forum and seen a few references suggesting that maybe the image data type works on the iPad but not the iPhone, that the image field will handle both .jpg and .png (not others?) but when I open the "D:\Documents\HanDBase\Images" folder the .png images are represented by black rectangles ...the jpg's are visible as full-color thumbnails.

There are obviouly serious restrictions in play that keep the an image field from behaving like other HDB field types — where do I go to read a full discussion re the field type AND the "HanDBase Image Library" - which apparently is its own separate repository?

Hey Jim,

Great to hear from you! The HanDBase Image library is just a way to manage the images that are stored locally within the app. Since on iOS files are kept separate between apps, there is no easy way to just browse and manage the images in your HanDBase install without the library. So when you go to that section you're able to see all of the images that have been installed to your device.

The image data type definitely works on both iPhone and iPad, and there should be no difference there in that regard!

One thing that may be catching you up is that the word image is used for two different things within HanDBase. The image field type is actually a black and white drawing field for capturing signatures. In fact, on iPad and iPhone this field is called Signature. On the desktop it's called an image because back when the desktop was first designed (for Palm OS devices) the only option was a black and white image! But it's truly a signature field by today's nomenclature.

Using a true image in HanDBase requires the use of the external field type. Here's a tutorial that demonstrates its use:
