Open Different Database?

Postby JohnChilson » Mon Feb 06, 2017 1:50 pm

I have a "system" with 12 databases. One database is a summary with only 1 record containing relationship fields to all the other databases to pull in their record counts and other total info and all displayed on a form.
I'd like to be able to put "buttons" on this form to open each of the other databases.
In order to get the cumulative counts and totals for each database I had to create a "dummy" record with ZZZZZZ as the ID for each database. When I put a "follow link..." button on my summary form, it only loads the ZZZZZZ record in the other database. I'd like to just open the database and show all the records without using another form.
Any suggestions?

I'm trying to think of a way to do this within the current app and can't recall an easy way- there is a way to jump to another database and show all records from the list view- you can create a view that has the action to jump to another database and then when you select that view it will show you the other database- all records. But as for doing this from a form.. the only thought I had was to create a second relationship to the same database field that is set to show all records in that database. Here's what I mean by this:

Let's use this simplified example:

DB: Car Brands

Field 1: Brand (Text)
Field 2: Cars - Relationship tying Brand above to field Brand in database Car Models.

DB: Car Models

Field 1: Brand (text)
Field 2: Model (text)

In the above when in a form in Car Brands that has a button pointing to the Field 2 Relationship, when you tap a button that has the action of follow link/linked/etc you should only see the records that have matching Brands to the record you have open.

but if you add the following fields to each DB:

DB: Car Brands:

Field 3: All records Value (Text) Default value of 1, set to hidden
Field 4: Relationship to DB Car Models pointing Field 3 to Field 3 of that database.

DB: Car Models

Field 3: All records Value (Text) Default value of 1, set to hidden

Now when you have a button pointing to field 4 in DB Car Brands and you tap that button, it will show all records in DB Car Models with a field value of 1 in Field 3. This should be all of the fields so you'd see them all. Kind of an odd workaround, but it should work for what you want to accomplish.
