Can't Sync Android to Windows Desktop - used to work

Postby dsaroff » Sun May 14, 2017 12:42 pm

Hi,

Suddenly I am unable to sync from my android phone (Marshmallow) to Windows Desktop (Windows 7). I get the error message, "This device is reporting no databases installed. This may be erroneous, and because you have the memory card removed, the device mounted to your computer, or some other reason. If this is the case..."

I can see the databases in my Android app, and I can see the databases in my Windows Desktop app. I've deleted the old user in sync and created a new one, and it still doesn't work.

Help!

I have exactly the same problem. I just updated to Samsung Galaxy 8s running android version 7. My older phone (Galaxy S4) running android 4.4.2 is syncing fine. My iphone also syncs perfectly. Very frustrating!

Hi,

I am having the exact same problem (desktop is running Windows 7 Pro SP1, 64bit). Multiple Android devices, running different Android versions, all the same.
It used to work fine for me too.

I am adding some info on what I have tried in the hope that Dave and / or Brian still monitor this forum and can help.

I have used Handbase desktop and synced with the old Palm devices, though pocket PCs and now Android.

Anyway, I was trying to set up to sync with a new phone (Moto X Style, running Android 6.0) and got the same error as dsaroff, device reporting no databases installed.
The phone has all the default databases plus two of my own and I can see them ok on the phone.
I assumed it was the phone setup, so progressively tried all the following. Force stopped Handbase on phone, deleted cache, deleted all data, uninstalled the app (even deleted the handbase folder in the phone's sd card).Re-installed the app, rebooted the phone, deleted the user on the desktop and re-created it. Still the same problem.
I have one database shared from another device and that got pushed to the Android ok, but the databases on the ANdroid did not sync to desktop.
I "edited" the shared db on the phone and synced again. The desktop version overwrote it, so clearly not a proper sync, just a push to the phone.

I then checked out the two other Android devices (Nexus 7 tablet running Android 4.4.4 and Nexus 4 phone, running Android 5.1.1), so I tried both of those and they both gave the same error!
I don't sync them that often, but when I do, it has always worked ok - up till now.

I then tried all of the following:
Rebooted all Androids, the desktop, the wireless router (even tried an old router instead), ran Handbase desktop under another admin account, adding new sync user

The last known good syncs (with the Nexus4) were March 15th 2017 and April 6th 2017.
On one device, the Nexus 7, I don't allow system updates because I want to keep ANdroid 4 on it, so I don't think the issue can possibly be the Android devices.

I suppose it might be a Windows update that has broken things?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

It does seem to be something related to an update or change in either windows or Android OS, as nothing has changed in the app side. I am working on a build that we can use to try to provide some log messages as to what is going on since it doesn't happen for everyone and we've been unable to duplicate here. If you would like to help us debug, please email support@ddhsoftware.com and Brian will get you the necessary build and steps once I have it ready!

From my perspective it's only update of Android. The thing is that they are making lot of updates and its blocking memory of mobiles.

Thanks o Dave for your offer of help, glad to know you still check the forum.

I think I may have narrowed this problem down to Avast Free Antivirus.
Are you other guys with this issue using this too?
My Avast is version 17.4.2294 (build 17.4.3.3482.0), virus definition version 170610-20

I tried temporarily turning Avast off (right click on the orange Avast symbol in task bar and select "Avast shields control" and then "Disable for 10 minutes") and then Opened Handbase on the phone and desktop and tried to sync. It worked flawlessly.

I then turned Avast shields back on (similar to above procedure, but select Enable) and sync no longer works.

Dave - I have sent you an email with the sync log attached - hope it helps, but I guess we are going to have to punch a hole in the Avast protection.

I do have Avast. I will try what you suggested and see if that is the issue. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, Shiny Brian...You are right. It was AVAST! turned it off temporarily and everything worked like a charm. Smart! :D

Hi Dsaroff,

Pleased to be of help. I hate it when tech doesn't work. And I hate it even more when it used to work and then suddenly doesn't for no obvious reason.
I've been playing with the Avast settings and found it is the "Web Shield" (out of the 4 that are running) that is the problem. Turn that off and I can sync.
I have tried to narrow it down by excluding various handbase processes and/or the URL of my Android device, but that's not enough.

At least we can temporarily turn off Avast when we need to do a sync until Dave or Brian come up with a better solution.

Here is the log when sync not working. The program seems to be stuck with one database (Expense_2017). There is an error: "Code 200: HTTP/1.0 200 OK" What does this mean?
