It looks like we may have a winning solution for syncing HanDBase on Android 4.x powered devices with our Windows based sync addon. Please read through the information below and get started with syncing!
PRE-REQUISITES:
- HanDBase for Android
- An Android device running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean (we have had reports of Gingerbread working with this method)
- A valid 30 day trial or registered version of HanDBase Plus, Professional or Enterprise for Android
- A Windows OS computer
- A wifi network to be shared by both the Android device and Windows computer
- A copy of WebDAV Server or WebDAV Server Pro
STEP #1
GETTING SET UP WITH WebDAV SERVER:
Step A: Choose your flavor, free or paid, of WebDav Server and install to your device:
- Free Version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rver&hl=en
Please note that we are not the author of WebDAV Server. It is the work of "The Olive Tree". We are in no way affiliated with "The Olive Tree". They just happened to write the first program that we tested that would meet our needs.
Step B: Turn on your device's wifi, opting to connect to the network used by your computer. If your phone is not sharing the same network as your computer, this process will not be successful.
Step C: Open WebDAV Server
Step D: Press Start
Please note that if you opt to use password protection in WebDAV Server, the username and password you assign will display on your phone/tablet screen in plain text. This may be a security risk, depending on where you use your device. You may want to consider covering your phone with a small piece of paper as a work around for this.
STEP #2
GETTING SET UP ON YOUR WINDOWS COMPUTER:
Step A: Select "Start Menu - Computer"
Step B: Select "Map Network Drive"
Step C: Assign a drive letter (Z will work)
Step D: Enter the address displayed on the screen of your Android device. Make sure it is in the format of http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080
Step E: Click "Connect" and wait for your device's storage card to appear in an Explorer window
Step F: Open HanDBase Desktop
Step G: Select Configure - Android Users - Set up New Android User and follow the prompts
Note that if a partnership for your device already exists, it is encouraged that you first select the partnership in the list and use the button option to delete it. This won't delete any databases on the desktop.
Assuming you test this, please let us know the results including:
- Manufacturer of Phone/Tablet
- Model of Phone/Tablet
- Version of Android
- Version of Windows
We have already confirmed success with the following:
- Samsung Galaxy S III, Android 4.0.4, Windows 7 Starter
- Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Android 4.0.4, Windows Professional 64 bit
If you have any questions or run into any problems, please let us know!
