iPhone 5 as base resolution

Wow multi resolution design is a mind field, do you think theres anything wrong with using the 5 (1136x640) as the base resolution? The iPhone 4 has been dumped in Ios 10 and it scales up nicely enough to 720/1080p and doesn't look to bad at 800x480 so it should cover most modern-ish android devices. I guess the iPad could be an issue.

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. Are you designing forms? It's certainly the part of HanDBase where the resolution of the screen is most relevant!

One thing I tend to do when designing forms is target the smallest feasible screensize. The forms code itself will scale the screen up to fit. So if you create a 320x240 form and optimize for that, when displayed on a screen size olike 1136x640, it will use an aspect scale when laying out the form to make it as large as it can while still fitting the screen.

Targeting the iPhone 5 since there are still devices shipping with it in parts of the world does seem like a good base resolution. Just keep in mind that the true dimensions of length and width of the device is halved when using within HanDBase- as the resolution they specify is the Retina display rez, and not the addressable dimensions for apps to access.
