Password Disappears After Sync

Postby johngjr » Thu Nov 18, 2010 2:05 pm

The Password requirement to open a database is reset to default (meaning the database can be opened on the desktop without a password) after a sync with the handheld.
Here is the scenario:
1) I click "Set Access Perameters"
2) Click "Open Database" and set to "Password Required"
3) Click "Ok"
4) Click "Set Access Password"
5) I enter password and verify password
6) Click "Ok" on each of the dialogue boxes
7) Save the database
At this point the databases can NOT be opened without a password, I have tried several attempts even after shutting down the computer. All is well until the handheld device is synced with the desktop - it is at this point the password requirement is set to default or non existant and the database can be opened without a password

I am using:
HandBase desktop version 4.1.5 Build R2
HandBase handheld version 4.1.5.'01
Blackberry 8530 Curv 2 with OS 5.0
Windows7 Home Professional

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong or if there is an update or fix for this?

Hi there,

The HanDBase for BlackBerry program does not support passwords in databases. That's probably the only variant of HanDBase that doesn't, and so what is happening is that the setting is being lost during the sync for that reason. If you're wanting the desktop version to have a password even though the BlackBerry one can't support this, you could override the sync settings for that database. Something like desktop overwrites Handheld would keep the changes to the structure from happening. The downside is that the records would also not sync.

Very sorry about this limitation!
