I can't find storage card files

Postby nestor_stura » Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:38 am

Hi All,
I am using V4.0 feature that allows to put HandBase files on my Storage card.

My problem is that after syncing, I cannot find my files with my Desktop version. Where are they located? They are not in My Dcuments\PDA....

Thanks in advance,

Néstor

When the 4.0 based conduit syncs, it searches the storage card for some type of way to identify the card. Then it creates a folder under the HanDBase folder where the internal memory databases are backed up. So for example, if your normal HanDBase databases are here: My Documents\HanDBase then you may find something like this: My Documents\HanDBase\StorageCard1 where the databases should reside. The HanDBase Desktop knows about this as well and should show you the databases stored in the storage card.

If you don't see them, let me know and we'll dig deeper by looking at the conduit settings and logs to make sure they are being found and backed up!

Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
Actuallly, my folder User...\My Documents\Handbase\ is empty.

I don't even find old backup files folder, so currenlçtly, the only files I do have are on my PPC.

Is this normal? Can you help me to organise this?

Thanks a lot.

It seems that synchronization may not be working on your setup. Have you installed the Development version we released a few weeks ago? If not, please read here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=154

Please first verify with me what version of HanDBase is installed and what happens when your device is connected.

Dear Dave,
I have installed Version 4.1 build R2. Please find attached screenshots ofthe syncing process, config file and HandBase folder (empty)

I have never received an error message and probably have neither discovered this issue if I shouldn't try to open a db with the desktop.

I hope we can find the solution and I pray nothing hapens to my PPC in the meanwhile.

Thanks a lot.

Néstor

PS: Now I will install the new release 4.15 and try it. I'll get to you soon.

Hi again,

I'm confused by the path you mentioned. The databases are stored in a folder structure like this: My Documents/HanDBase/UserName

Can you check for such a folder and let me know whether you find the files there? If not, please sync again and this time select the option to not auto close the dialog after sync. At this point you can choose the View Log option at the end of the sync. Please copy and paste that log to me in your reply!

Dave,
HDB allways synced ok for the last eight years, at least.

Since I work with Vista I have my Handbase files in C:\Users\nestor\Documents\Documents on PDA de NESTOR\HanDBase

The problem appeared now when I upgraded to HDB 4.0 and decided to use its new feature and store in my card.

Follows the log file:

Hi again,

Sorry for the delayed response. Two things we need to check:

1. The folder you are checking appears to be the synced folder for the Files activesync conduit. We don't sync our files there, though you typically do find them there as well since the Files conduit makes copies of each file within the My Documents tree. The folder you should look to find your HanDBase synced files is here:
C:\Users\nestor\Documents\HanDBase
under there you should have a folder named after your device's user name and the databases are stored there. This is as of the HanDBase 4.1.5 Development release. The prior versions stored data in a different folder.

2. Since you're getting lots of errors in your sync, it's doubtful any are actually syncing. At this point I don't know why that's all failing. I think the best course of action is to enable debug logging in case the debug log shows more information. Here's info on how to set this up:

Here is a link to a utility that helps us look deeper into sync
problems:
http://www.ddhsoftware.com/files/debug40.zip

This is a very small file that does nothing but allow debugging
information to be recorded into a separate log file (a file called
"hdbdbg.log" at

XP
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HanDBase4\hdbdbg.log

Vista
C:\Program Data\HanDBase4\hdbdbg.log

If you open this .exe, you will see a message and a checkbox to
select. Select that checkbox, and then perform a sync of either the
Windows Mobile Classic/Professional (Pocket PC), Windows Mobile
Standard (Smartphone) or the Palm OS device. This will log all of the
actions taken by the HandBase conduit during the sync process on a
much more microscopic level than the normal sync log does. I can't
guarantee that this will help isolate a fix or workaround, but this
should help us figure out at least which exact action is the last
action that does work during the sync process. Once you re-create the
error, you can send the hdbdbg.log as an attachment to support@ddhsoftware.com .
