Description:

Hike The Trail 1.0
================

Keep track of all your hiking activities through out the years! All the parks you've visited. All trails you've hiked. You can see how many miles you've hiked on a single hike or all your hikes.

This version includes:

  • Parks - Keep a list of all the parks you've visited. You have information for contacting the park, open hours and directions of how to get there if you ever want to revisit a Park. Also contains the list of trails on the Trails applet.
  • Trails - Keeps information for each trail - distance difficulty, type (Loop, In and Out or Point-to-Point).
  • Hiking Journal - Log all your hiking activities - weather, elevation change, time spent on that hike, etc. The total mileage hiked that day will be automatically calculated when you enter the trails hiked on the next applet.
  • Trails Hiked - Logs all the trails you hiked that day. It calculates the total mileage you hiked and can also enter your personal difficulty level. When you hike this trail again, compare your rates to see if you still find that trail so difficult.

1. Parks
=============

a. Quick Guide:
----------------

Keeps a list of parks with hiking trails (Linked to the Trails applet). The total mileage of hiking available on the park; contact information; fees and permissions; activities available on that park, and more.

The idea is to create a Database with as many parks as possible. But, I'm still one guy that has to do other stuff to put dinner on the table. If anyone wants to send new Parks to be included on this DB, please send them to me (Marcelo Caldas) and I will make them available as files to be imported into this applet by Region or By State.

I still need to think this process thru, but Ideas are welcome!

b. Views:
----------

  • "Default View" - This view always contains all fields for debug purposes.
  • "Main View" - Main view with summary info about each park
  • "With Campsite" - Interested only on parks that have campsite available? use this view to filter them out. Also, use this view as a template if you want to search for parks with specific Activities - falls, canyons, etc.

c. Useful Sorts:
-----------------

By Activity, by Region, By State, By distance from your home.

d. Useful Filters:
-------------------

By Activity, By Region, by State, by mileages available in the park, in case you want to go for a quick 2 miles hike or a long 3 days 28 miles hike!

2. Trails
==========

a. Quick Guide:
----------------

This applet keeps a link of Trails attached or not to a specific park. It holds minimal information about each trail, like distance and type of the trail. The types of trails are as follow:

  • Loop: These type of trails once you've hiked the entire trail you will end up on the same place that you started. The distance for this type of trail marks a full loop.
  • Point to Point: These type of trails, you start at point A and end on point B - The mileage marked on these trails are for one way only.
    Tip: If you travel a point-to-point on both directions, enter two record on Trails hiked - one North -> South and the other South -> North for example.
  • In and out:This trail leads you to a dead-end. From that point on, you have to turn back and hike all the way out. The mileage marked on thse trails is for the full trip: from start to end to start again.

b. Views:
----------

  • "Default View" - This view always contains all fields for debug purposes.
  • "Main Vliew" - Main view with summary info about each trail
  • "By Park" - Trails that belong to a specific park.
  • "Hiked Trails" - Trails that you've already hiked - It shows the last date you hiked that trail if more than once.

c. Useful Sorts:
-----------------

By Park, By Difficulty, By Hiked On

d. Useful Filters:
-------------------

By Park, Difficulty, Length (looking for a short trail to hike?)

3. Hiking Journal
==========

a. Quick Guide:
----------------

This applet will hold all your hiking activities - elevation change, who you hiked with, what time you started and what time you finished. Enter all the notes you want to summarize your experience. It's always good to have notes of your hikes, so when you want to take a friend to that gorgeous waterfall that you don't exactly remember where it was.... Or if you want to know which parks have you backpacked and go back some day... maybe you want to try the autum or even winter if you not afraid of the cold!

This applet links to the Trails Hiked to hold information about all the trails you hiked that day. From that applet, the mileage will be calculated for you.

b. Views:
----------

  • "Default View" - This view always contains all fields for debug purposes.
  • "Main Vliew" - Main view with summary info about each trail
  • "Backpacking" - Hikes that you spent the night over - either on a tent or on a gorgeous Hike-Inn!

c. Useful Sorts:
-----------------

By Date, By rating, by miles.

d. Useful Filters:
-------------------

Date, Rating, miles.

4. Trails Hiked
==========

a. Quick Guide:

05/28/2003 EzBiz 1.01 [Business Tools]

EzBiz Suite
================

Run your entire Business on your pocket!

This applet was created with Contractors in mind. It is of great use for 1099 and S-Corps out there. EzBiz offers an easy way of keeping track of billable hours, days off, and taxes (EzTax is an optional module).

This version includes:

  • EzTime - Time tracking
  • EzTax - Track your taxes
  • EzCustomers - Track Companies you're working for
  • EzContacts - Track your contact points on each company
  • EzProjects - Track the projects you're developing for each customer.
  • TaxPeriod - Pivot DB that controls how you pay your taxes.

1. - EzTime:
=============

a. Quick Guide:
----------------

Week based record for easy entry of worked hours - Regular, Overtime or Holidays. Set up your rates for Regular, overtime and holidays and you'll automatically know how much money you're making. (Tip: If you don't get paid for holidays, simply set the rate as $0.00)

When you create a new record, you'll be presented with a form where you can specify the Week date, the Tax period that earnings belongs to, the client that that you will bill for this period and the project you're working on. You can also enter some text on the Event field for historic purposes. The "Tax Period" is shipped with a standard quarterly period. If your tax schedule is different than that, simply create the schedule that fits your needs.

Once this info is entered, all you have to do is every day (or when you feel like) enter the hours you worked for that client/project.

If you want to keep track of hours per project/client, you can create a second record for the same week.

As the weeks progresses by, you can see how much $$$ you're making.

Tip: If you want to forecast, create further weeks at once and the totals amounts will be calculated for you (Every time you create a new week, regular hours from Monday thru Friday will default to 8 hours - you can change this on the Field properties.) There's also a "Billed" flag on the WeekView that allows you to keep track of which hours have been billed to the client. You can also use this view to update other softwares that the client requires you to enter time against.

b. Views:
----------

  • "Default View" - I always live this view as is, for future debugging and a way of having all fields listed
  • The "Totals" views gives you an Idea of how much Regular, overtime and holiday hours you're working. And the Amount made for that Week.
  • "Weekly View" allow you to see total hours worked on a daily basis. It also has a Billed? flag to indicate whether those hours have been billed or not.
  • "Holidays" shows only weeks where you took some time off. This view is great for keeping track of your vacations.
  • "Tax Period" shows you how much money you made for that tax period.
    Tip: For further information about taxes, you can use the optional EzTax module.
  • "Billing" shows you how much your clients owe you. You can use this view to calculate the total by clients. Also, if you have forecast weeks, remember to limit the dates as well.
  • "History" - List old records ready to be moved to a History DB (See Useful Tips).

c. Useful Sorts:
-----------------

In most scenarios, it's extremely important that you keep the DB sorted by the Tax Period, so the TotalPerPeriod can be appropriately calculated. (This is very important when using the EzTax module).

d. Useful Filters:
-------------------

By Tax Period, by date (Current Year), by client or BillTo, by project.

e. Useful Tips:
------------------

Once you close a year, create a copy of this applet as "HistoryEzTime" and move old records there. Because of the great amount of calculations, it is a good idea to keep the "active" database very light-weight. And the "History" DB can go to a secondary storage media, since it doesn't need sync any more.

2. EzTax
==========

a. Quick Guide:
----------------

This DB helps you figure out how much taxes you have to pay. It will keep listening to the EzTime DB for posted hours and show you how much money you've made so far. Then you can enter the percentage of taxes you want to pay and he will tell you how much you owe to the Feds...

The EzTax is composed of three forms:

  • Taxes Due:

Enter the Tax Period this record is related to - this is the value that will create the relationship with EzTime to retrieve the total amount earned on that period. Enter the % you want to pay in taxes (Federal and State) and the balance will be updated. When time comes to pay taxes - simply go to the second tab - Payments.

  • Payments:

First, enter the date the payment was made.

If you have any income that was Tax-Free, you can enter this value as an amount for the period, or as a percentage of your Gross Income. This will be deducted from your

Gross Income before calculating taxes.
For the Federal and State, enter how much you paid for each one. You can also enter the check Number to keep track.

Tip: If you want, you can use CheckBk+ (or any other applet you use for keeping track of your checks/expenses) to link payments for your federal and state taxes

  • Adjust:

Your Taxes due and payments may not match. And at the end of the year you might have to pay more, or if you're lucky, receive money back! You can use this form to enter this information and zero out your balance. If you prefer to start each Tax Period new, you can also use this fields to zero the left over balances. (Otherwise, previous balances will be carried over to the next tax period!)

b. Views:

----------

  • "Default View" - I always live this view as is, for future debugging and a way of having all fields listed"
  • "Balance" shows you what is your balance for each tax period created.
  • "EzTime" will send you to the EzTime DB.
  • "History" - List old records ready to be moved to a History DB (See Useful Tips).

c. Useful Sorts:
-----------------

Tax Period.

d. Useful Filters:
-------------------

Payment Date

e. Useful Tips:

----------------

  • Once you close a year, create a copy of this applet as "HistoryEzTax" and move old records there. Because of the great amount of calculations, is a good idea to keep the "active" database very light-weight. And the "History" DB can go to a secondary storage media, since it doesn't need sync any more.
  • EzTax will be improved with future modules like EzRetirement, EzExpenses and EzAuto.

3. EzCustomer, EzContacts and EzProjects
==========================================

a. Quick Guide:
----------------

With EzProjects, you'll know which projects belongs to which Customers; when they started and when they are scheduled to end. Also, you can keep notes for each project to make your life easier when you have to update your resume!!!
