HanDBase for
PalmOS supports additional functionality provided by hardware in
some handhelds. Some popular features include:
jog wheel (found in Sony devices)
rocker (found in Handera and Hanspring Treo devices)
Back (Sony) or Escape (Handera and Hanspring Treo) buttons.
The purpose of these controls is to allow the user to have a one-handed
operation of the device or a complementary navigation control that
works together with the device's standard input (Graffiti or
keyboard).
How does it work?
The action performed by the control is determined by the current
application screen:
Choose Database: Scrolling/Moving up or down allow
selection of a database name. Pressing on the control opens the
selected database. Pressing the Back/Escape button closes HanDBase.
Record List: Scrolling/Moving up or down selects a
record from the list. Pressing on the control simulates a tap on the
first field (left-most column). If the first field is a check box,
this is then toggled, if it is of another type then it opens the selected
record for edition. Pressing the Back/Escape button closes the current
database and takes to the Choose Database screen.
Edit Record: Scrolling/Moving up or down, scrolls the
record in that direction at the rate specified in the Preferences
screen (Scroll Up/Down by: One Line/One Page). Pressing on the control
or the buttons, closes the current record and takes back to the Record
List screen.
All screens: Back/Escape buttons close the current
screen and move to the previous one.
