Question: Can I use the HanDBase Data Exchange with ACT!2000?
Product: HanDBase Data ExchangeArticle Number: 142Creation Date: 08/01/2001
Answer:

Following is information retrieved from the ACT! website regarding ODBC support.

"Can I use Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) to exchange information between ACT! 4.0/2000 and another database product?
To a limited extent, you can. However, please note the following:

  • ACT! 4.0/2000 is not fully ODBC compliant.
  • You can use ODBC to read an ACT! database.
  • You should not use ODBC to write to an ACT! database.
  • For this to work with many applications, you must use the 8.3 filename convention.
  • This may not work with all fields."

ACT! uses dBase(DBF) compatible files. Therefore you can set up an ODBC source to your ACT! Data file using the dBase driver, usually supplied by Microsoft. We have tested this on a limited basis and have been able to Convert from ACT! to HanDBase, selecting columns. However as indicated above it was not possible to convert/write to ACT! from HanDBase. Doing so required reimporting the data on the ACT! side and also required Re-Mapping within ACT.
