How do I set up an Ad Hoc connection between my iPhone/iPod Touch and my Mac to Sync?
Product: HanDBase for iPhoneArticle Number: 344Creation Date: 03/04/2009
Here's the brief description of how to set up a connect direct from your Mac to your iPhone or iPod Touch:

This is a workaround if you have problems setting up sync between your iPhone or iPod Touch and a Mac over a WiFi connection or if you don't have a WiFi Router to connect to. Follow these instructions to set up an Ad Hoc (computer-to-computer) network connection between your Mac and iPhone (your iPhone or iPod Touch will be considered a computer here). Please note that your Mac will need to have WiFi capability.

  1. Click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar (upper-right hand side of the menu bar)
  2. Choose "Create network" and enter a network name and a password (if you want added security, check the corresponding box).
  3. Connect your iPhone to this network. Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi on the iPhone, select the network and enter the password you selected. Wait a few seconds for this connection to take hold.
  4. Start HanDBase on your iPhone and go to desktop connect. You should get an address that is different than before and your mac should have no problems connecting to it.
