Question: How can I install the HanDBase databases I had on my Palm OS version of HanDBase to my new HanDBase for iPhone/iPod touch?
Product: HanDBase for iPhoneArticle Number: 351Creation Date: 06/25/2009
Answer:
Two versions, first for using the Conduit package and then after for using Desktop Connect:

Using HanDBase Plus or Professional add-on for iPhone/iPod touch

Note: More information on these optional products here:
Windows: http://www.ddhsoftware.com/handbase_iPhone_winaddon.html
Mac: http://www.ddhsoftware.com/handbase_macplus.html

- On your desktop computer, HanDBase should have it's databases stored in a folder. The folder should be somewhere like this:

c:\program files\palmone\username\handbase - where c:\program files\palmone is the path to your Palm Desktop software and username is an abbreviated form
of your Palm username.

Inside this folder are a bunch of files
with the extension PDB. These are your databases from that Palm as
last backed up by the HanDBase conduit.

- To install them to your iPhone, first configure an initial synchronization between your iPhone and HanDBase Desktop. Details of setting this up are here:

Windows: http://www.ddhsoftware.com/docs/HanDBaseforiPhoneDesktopandConduitQuickstartManual.pdf

Mac: Help section of HanDBase Desktop software includes this information already. No additional file download needed!

- Once you have done the initial sync above, you have a partnership set
up between HanDBase and your iPhone. Now you can open a database from
the Palm folder mentioned in the first step. You can do this by
dragging that file from that folder onto the HanDBase Desktop.

- Once it's open, choose File, then install to smartphone/handheld and
choose the iPhone/iPod touch username from the list. Press OK and it
will be queued to sync on the next synchronization.

- Repeat the last two steps for each database you wish to install to your iPhone.

- Now to perform another sync, choose Configure, then iPhone/iPod touch
users. Choose the Synchronize button and it will sync the databases
over to your iPhone.

Steps for transferring via Desktop Connect:

- On your desktop computer, HanDBase should have it's databases stored in a folder. The folder should be somewhere like this:

c:\program files\palmone\username\handbase - where c:\program files\palmone is the path to your Palm Desktop software and username is an abbreviated form
of your Palm username.

Inside this folder are a bunch of files
with the extension PDB. These are your databases from that Palm as
last backed up by the HanDBase conduit.

- Start Desktop Connect and connect to it from your desktop web browser. Details of this are in the user guide under the Desktop Connect section:
http://www.ddhsoftware.com/docs/HanDBaseforiPhoneUserGuide.pdf

- Once you have done the initial HanDBase page showing in your desktop browser, locate the Upload Database section along the right side of the page. Click the Browse button to locate the first file to install. Now you can open a database from the Palm folder mentioned in the first step. Then click the Upload button and it will be added to the list of databases shown along the left.

- Repeat the last step for each database you wish to install to your iPhone.

That's it!
