FileMaker Conduit Overview: Sync Exchange allows for synchronizing between the successful FileMaker Pro and HanDBase Palm application. This means that with a press of a button, you can manage your data anywhere, anytime.
Sync Exchange not only copies all your important FileMaker data onto your Palm OS powered handheld organizer, it allows for complete synchronization between FileMaker and HanDBase. That means that if you enter, edit or delete data in HanDBase, while on the go, the changes will be transferred into FileMaker. Likewise, if you enter, edit or delete data in FileMaker, the changes will be transferred to your Palm OS powered handheld during the next HotSync.
FAQ:
What FileMaker fields are supported?
Text, Number, Date and Time match identically. Most of the other FileMaker field types can be converted to emulate a corresponding HanDBase field. Container, Summary and Global FileMaker fields are the only three field types that cannot be converted to work in HanDBase.
OS X Support?
The HanDBase Sync Exchange FileMaker Conduit for Macintosh has been tested under the Macintosh OS X operating system. This Conduit will run in Classic Mode with no known problems. We do have plans to make a native version of this conduit for OS X users now that the Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager Software are OS X native. (We do not have an estimated time for release of this version at this time.)
Will it backup my databases?
Currently Sync Exchange will make a backup copy of the Merged Desktop PDB Database file prior to actually Synchronizing with the handheld. This way if a change made on the handheld prevails, mainly due to Structure changes, but also possibly due to Data changes, you will be able to restore the data from the desktop.
Will it archive my data?
A standard feature of the HanDBase conduit is to automatically archive your databases if they are deleted from the Handheld. Similar to the Palm software, however, you are not prompted asking if you want to archive them. This is done automatically.
Is Scripting supported?
As referenced in the Sync Exchange Settings section, this Conduit has the ability to Run a FileMaker script before and after the actual Synchronization takes place. If you have set up Scripts in your FileMaker database then these will be listed as possible options in the Settings. What this function enables you to do is perform certain functions prior to the actual Merge and Synchronization takes place and also after the Merge and Synchronization takes place.
