Hi Fabio,

Thanks for your posting. Please let me know what outstanding issues you have with the S60 version so we can address them. As far as enhancements and feature growth of the platform, at this point it's a big question mark. While the S60 platform has the overall worldwide lead in marketshare, the percentage of customers who add applications to those phones are a small fraction of other devices like iPhone or Android, so the potential for HanDBase is much less on this platform! That may change, and I know Nokia is doing all they can to get users to buy software from the Ovi store, but we're in a wait-and-see mode for this platform at this point as interest level has been comparatively low.

I've seen that 1.6M a day number quoted on various sites recently and they all say that includes ringtones and music, and the percentage of actual apps is pretty low! It's still an impressive number, but unfortunately most of the countries are countries we don't support with HanDBase due to character encoding restrictions. Other than some Euro countries like Germany and UK, most of the top selling countries are Arabic or Asian language countries unfortunately.

Considering we have virtually no competition on the platform, you'd think interest in HanDBase for S60 would be higher if apps were selling so well!

Can i ask you what is the version you sell most? i have apple, symbian, pcketpc versions of your program.
The last question: is it possible to create a stand alone pdb made for symbian to sell in ovi store?
I' am an italian lawyer and with handbase i made a legal software to organize the work. Some people are interested in it and i think it would be a great idea to sell my software. In Italy the market of smartphone (first of all nokia and apple) is booming.
Let me know your opinion.Thanks

Hi Fabio,

You can generally tell the version that sells the best by the one that gets most of our attention- in this case the iPhone version! When there are lots of customers, there are also lots of customer requests hence all the activity on that platform.

We don't have a way to do runtimes on the newer platforms like S60 or Apple at this point. We could create a custom solution potentially but the costs and time involved are exponentially higher for something like this. You can contact me privately if you'd like to discuss that further.

As an aside, I'd love to hear more about what you track for your legal profession in HanDBase!

Hi,
have just switched to using HanDBase on S60 Platform (Nokia 5800) and note that this version seems to be missing functionality compared to the Palm version:

Firstly and most importantly the Nokia has no keys or "D-pad" while an option is provided to scroll through the records (vertically) there is no way to scroll across the fields (horizontally)

Also unlike the palm version you can't tap and drag on the title to resize the column nor tap and get the context menu for sorting etc.

Is this me being stupid? or are these features missing in the S60 version? if so are they going to reappear?

ta,

Definitely not you being stupid! Every version of HanDBase has different sets of features. The Palm version being the most mature has the largest feature set and the S60 has one of the smaller feature sets being that (as the thread above says) we only have a small number of customers using it.

Scrolling right and left requires a d-pad device at this time- most of the non-touchscreen versions of the S60 devices have a d-pad, but with a touchscreen there is currently no support for this in our application. Something we will consider for the future, but dragging resize and such context items are not planned at this time.

Thanks,
I think I can live without horizontal scrolling for the moment by using the Views option to manage what is on screen and to be honest these are probably what I should have been using rather than relying on the drag to width feature. It would be nice to have the context menu back at some time. Hopefully the S60 user base will grow now S60 has a rapidly growing base of very competent hardware.
