Hi

I can see that the Photo field is just a B&W image. Is there anyway to link to a proper photo or to paste a colour photo in the field (is it being developed)? I use the symbian version, there appears to be a plugin for colour photos on Palm.

From the version list it appears that for Symbian you can only have the standard version of HB. I presume this means it won't work with Forms.

Hi jeff,

Hope you don't mind my moving this to the right section on the site!

The field type image was born on B&W Palm OS based devices, so at the time it was 'state of the art'. It was never a photo field, but more a sketch image field. Over time as color devices came out, we kept the field as it was useful for people capturing signatures in database. The same is true today and on some of the newer platforms the field type is named 'signature field' and not image field.

We can't really embed the full color images in a database without the file becoming too huge too fast, so we relegate this to storing the data externally, which is where the plugins come in on Palm OS. The External field type is one that can be expanded on that platform via the plugins. An image field was done by one developer and is still maintained to this day.
Unfortunately no such plugins exist on the S60 platform and I'm not aware of any plans for this to be honest.

To answer your question- forms are not available on the S60 version either. Sorry!

thanks for the info. Is there any possibility of making a Hyperlink Field? Instead of the Image I could put a hyperlink to the photo which needs to be appended then others can find what the record is refering to.

I've currently set up a text field with a Popup giving the main path to where the photos are stored. Then I just put the photo number in the field. Problem is I can't just click the link in the DB as it opens the record. It would be good if for a "Hyperlink" field you could just click on the contents to go elsewhere. Could be useful for other things as well.

Sorry for all the questions / suggestions but it's all new, and hopefully you may be able to give feedback to the developers (if you're not one).

No apologies necessary, your questions and suggestions are more than welcome.

There isn't a hyperlink field at this time in the S60 version, that's typically another plugin for the external field on other platforms. I wish there were something like that available as well as it would solve problems like this!

Will definitely keep it on the wish list for this program. Let's see if others are also interested in the feature!
