Sync laptop to android phone

Postby howard » Mon Nov 30, 2020 3:21 pm

I have been using HB with MS Access on my PC (Windows 7) and syncing with my Android phone (v.7.0) without any issues. I have upgraded (?) to a new laptop using windows 10. Same phone. I uploaded HB to the new laptop, exported a MS Access file to HB, no problem. When I try to sync with the phone it won't let me set up a user. The screen on the laptop states "could not locate any connected drive letters that are liked to HB on an android device. Make sure you have USB storage mode enabled and that you have run HB on this phone before" I'm lost. Any suggestions.
Thank you for any help.

How are you trying to set up a new user? Are you using WiFi or USB?

I am not a DDHSoftware employee, just a long time HanDBase user.... from Palm to Windows Mobile to Android, to iOS. Thanks to DDH, the database files transferred to each platform without a problem.

I would suggest you try to set up a user using WiFi sync, not the USB port. If I remember correctly from before, there was an issue with USB sync due to a change within the Android Operating system.

I would suggest that you try to set up a partnership using WiFi and let us know how that went.

Thanks for the start. I am unable to switch to wireless. I followed the directions given in the manual and have my phone in the desktop connect mode and have the http address given but I can't get to the screen in HB where it says Setup New Android user, enter HTTP value (shown in the manual HB for Android, Windows desktop and conduit quick start guide on page 19) I can't enter the value generated on my phone.I go to config/sync and can't get past the window where it asks me to choose between setup new user, sync, view, edit and delete. When I select set up I end up with "can't connect through USB, etc." I'm stuck. I really appreciate your efforts. I need to get this to work! It worked on my old laptop.
Thank you.

I think that you're missing a setting. Trying these instructions

[list]
[*]Start HanDBase Desktop on the new computer
[*]Click on Configure/Sync->Android Users
[*]On the Manage Android Users screen, Delete any users in the center box.
[*]Click on the Setup New Android User button
[*]On the Setup New Android User - Step 1 screen, click on the WiFi Radio button, then click the Next button
[*]On the Setup New Android User - Step 2 screen, read what is in the box, then click the Next button
[*]Open HanDBase on your Android device, then click on the 2 arrows that chase each other in the circle. You will be the screen which will tell you the IP address of your device on the WiFi Network.
[*]On the Setup New Android User - Step 3 screen, enter the IP address as listed on your android screen. You want to make sure that you enter http:// in front of the address (NOT HTTPS), and that you have the ':8080' at the end of the address. It will look something like this 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080', where the x's are the numbers you see on the Android screen. Those are the most common mistakes made. (At least I make those mistakes)
[*]You should see on the next screen that a partnership has been created. You should have a next button that will complete the initial sync.

Now I can't tell you the exact screens because I do not have an Android device to go through this on, but you should get to sync at this point.

If you have a failure, please note which screen the failure is on, and the error message.

One last question. Are you trying to do this on a home network or a work network?
Have a good day

I really appreciate your efforts.
I don't have a WiFi radio button as you refer to in step 5 of your instructions.
That's the point where I seem to be stuck, Should I try to reload the program?
I'm at a loss!

Your welcome Howard. I try to help when I can.

Yes, the step is very important when setting up WiFi sync, and you might have an older version of HanDBase desktop

I recommend that you go to ddhsoftware (dot) com, then go to login. The credentials are your username/password that you were emailed when you purchased your desktop program. Then download the most current copy of the software for Windows with Android add-on.

Install the software and then after installation, try the instructions again and see if that helps.

if you still get errors, please list the version of HanDBase Desktop software that you installed, and we will go from there.
