Cannot Sync Desktop with iPhone any method

Postby Dernesto » Wed May 25, 2016 10:36 am

Hello all,

I've tried the various ways to sync the desktop with the iPhone. Have the conduit software.

Unable to connect through same wifi router - perhaps this is because I am traveling and using a hotel router. No error message, just doesn't connect.

Set up a "pseudo" network on Macbook and iphone but when I choose Desktop Connect icon on iPhone, it gives the error message: "To connect to use this feature you must connect to a wifi network"

Using the setup assistant I get: A new partnership could not be created because the iPhone did not respond at the address given.

Searching this message board frantically as we're heading out of available internet into our research field. Any prompt replies would be greatly appreciated. Didn't think we'd have this much trouble.

Running
Mac OSX 10.11.2
iPhone 6s 9.3.1

Hi,

For using an adhoc network, you will have to manually force the iPhone to connect to the newly created network. If you go into Settings and choose WiFi, you'll see an option to choose a network. You should see the adhoc network you created on your laptop and it should connect automatically upon selection.

Afterwards you should be able to sync via the adhoc connection.

If that doesn't work, let us know.

Keep in mind in the meantime you can manually email databases from iPhone to Mac and vice versa. Upon opening from the email on the iPhone, choose to open in HanDBase. The latest changes made on the Mac will merge.

From time to time, also, based on where you are at, check to see if your network connection allows the connection (the hotel was likely blocking it).

Thanks, Brian.

I managed to work around the hotel wifi to successfully sync with my laptop this way. However, I have very limited internet and no wifi in the field now, which is why I want to get the ad hoc connection working properly.

I have set up an ad hoc network and have tested this network sharing the internet and other files. As I mentioned, when I try and use desktop connect on my iPhone, I keep getting the error message from HanDbase "To connect to use this feature you must connect to a wifi network" Even though I am connected.

I have manually set a static IP on my phone and this does not work either. Any other suggestions here? Anyone else run into this problem?

Mac OSX 10.11.2

Any help here, folks? I can't be the only one who's gotten this error message when trying to connect to a working ad hoc network.

Instead of an adhoc network, I would use a small pocket router to connect to with the laptop and phone.

I have an older compact linksys router that I take with me on trips. I connect the router to the wired connection in the room and both of us can connect to the internet at the same time.

For the purposes of syncing HanDBase, you do not have to hook it up to a wired connection, just connect both the laptop and phone to the router through WiFi and when you are done syncing, then you can switch back to the hotel wireless connection for internet access.

Thanks, curtterp, but I don't have the option to buy a mini-router for some time. It would be great to know a work around or why I keep getting the error message.

Unfortunately I am not sure why that error would still be occurring.

When I set up an adhoc network on my Mac and connect to it via my iOS device, I am able to successfully sync.

One thing you might try - manually kill HanDBase. Double tap the home button, find HanDBase's thumbnail and slide up on it. Do this after connecting to the adhoc network.

Unfortunately this did not work either, Brian. I did find an easy work around if anyone reading this has the same trouble:

I'm accessing the internet with a USB dongle on my Macbook. I simply shared my internet connection through internet sharing in System Preferences with my iPhone. I was able to connect to the desktop this way.

I have recently bought a MacBook Pro and the same problem is also found in my new MacBook. I have updated the system and expected to be solved, but after it, my macbook pro won't turn on. It turns into a black screen.
