View - Sort errors

I have been adding records via the Mac desktop (4.512) and using them on a iPod Touch 5 (4.9.073). While I use the records on the iPod I make views that are sorted different ways.

What I notice on iPod is everything is correct, and when they aren't I can find an added space or misspelling which solves the problem. But, when I use the database on the Mac desktop, or the Wine version I see mistakes in the sorting. For those few records now which is only 2 in the 35 records in the view sorted by insect Family and then Genus, I've tried various methods to correct the problem, but I suspect I will have to create new records from scratch (not a copy to new which doesn't work) to fix the problem but have resisted this approach.

The big question is why does it sort one way in the iPod correctly and when looked at on the desktop using the same view some are out of order? I have seen this before, but never so persistently so that I couldn't fix them.

Any ideas?

So sorry- I only saw this when responding to another post in this section! Not sure how I missed it but my apologies.

It sounds like there may be a bug in the sorting algorithm, if you can send me any example database I can take a look!

I had to use the Wine version to look at this DB, but that wasn't really as easy to work with, so I went back to the Mac desktop. After being in the Wine version, the sorting problem no longer exists. I hope it stays that way.

This is good news for me, but a mystery. I hope this helps you diagnose something about this? Maybe it isn't a problem and just a odd ball issue. Anyway, since you didn't get back to me when I sent you my file, I assume you couldn't find any problem.

Nobody answered this question, and I am finding the same problem in another file of a collection of music CDs. The sort on the desktop Version 4.512 is terribly wrong and this time I added a confirmation field that numbers via formula all records in a view from 1 on up (previous record plus 1). In that field there is even duplicate numbers and they are out of sequence along with a few others at the end of the sort.

In the attached under "#" col. you see at the bottom you will see #s 3, 5, 16. No 16 is duplicate #, but not a duplicate record. #s 3 and 5 are correctly numbered but in the wrong place.

I needed a print out of this file, but couldn't do it from the desktop due to the errors and all numbers from 16 and up all wrong. Luckily I was able to export from my iPhone via CSV file by email or all work would have been of no value.

My apologies- as getting a Catalina compatible version has been my top priority I have not be able to address any bugs in the app. Once I have a 64 bit version I'll be able to focus on this and any other issues!
