Hi Dave,

thanks for your continuing efforts.

I have a number of obsolete apps that I love and continue to use, (Canvas and Ascent) and so I've created a MacOS 10.6 virtual machine and I've now added HandBase desktop, so that if I do upgrade to Catalina (and am in no hurry to do this!) I can still use the desktop app regardless of the availability of a 64 bit version.

I understand that this is not something that everyone would wish to do or that Dave would want to put forward as a solution but, it does work!

Cheers

Iain

Dave,

Thank you for your efforts to resolve this issue. I like many have used your software for years, only paying way back when. A yearly fee is being charged by a number of other packages and would gladly pay a yearly fee to keep HandBase working.

Thank you

I too am extremely happy to hear you have cracked the 64bit hurdle! I've been with you since the PalmOS days, then into macOS / iPhone era of today. While I share this enthusiasm, I too believe it is time to pay up for a modern version; however, unlike others here, and with no offense given, I do NOT do subscription-ware. I gladly pay for upgrades and full versions of new software I need, though. Please consider both methods if you enable charging for the 64bit version...perpetual license and subscription (or, I think most would not argue with just the perpetual license). Thank you.

I am delighted to hear that you are well on the way to a 64-bit version and would be happy to try it out.
Congratulations on your breakthrough!

Hi everyone,

If you have a chance, please try downloading the new builds. The registered/full versions should be live in the registered user's page, though there are still two caveats I'm working on:

1. The info on the registered user's page still shows the old build number. I will fix that this week. But it should be the new one and you'll know for sure if the HanDBase icon is the newer style (grey, rather than wood grained cabinet!).

2. You will have to right click HanDBase Desktop in your Applications folder and then run it, due to the way Gatekeeper treats the app right now. I have to register it with Apple so that it will be whitelisted, but that requires I build with a newer XCode than I have been using for this update. I don't want to start back over with the entire beta testing after building with the new xcode right now, since everyone is anxious to have it running again, so for now the first time you'll have to do this.

Please let me know asap if you have any issues! Thanks so much for your patience these last few months and for being the most loyal customers a guy could ask for :)

I'm running Mojave. I zipped my previous version of HanDBase and moved it out of the Applications folder to keep it safe, just in case. Then downloaded the new version, which indeed has the gray icon. To launch it, I control-clicked-and-held on the icon and got a popup menu, with a choice at the top to "Open". Chose that and had to get past another dialog box before I could open it. (I can't remember what that box said, and can't get it back, because you only need to OK the app once.) I'm posting all these details in hopes it helps others. Now to try it!

If you wind up getting a box that says that HanDBase cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for Malware,

Got to Apple->System Preferences->Security and Privacy
On the General tab, look at the bottom 3rd, and there should be something about HanDBase cannot be opened. There will be an 'Open Anyways' button. Click it.

HanDBase should run now.
Have a good day

Curt
I am not a DDHSoftware employee, just a long time HanDBase user.... from Palm to Windows Mobile to Android, to iOS. Thanks to DDH, the database files transferred to each platform without a problem.

Not sure what to download.
Is this the link to download the new version?
"Latest Release Version: 4.512
Build R1"

My old desktop version is = 4.512 (without Build R1).

Hi Glen,

I mentioned that I have not updated the description yet, so yes, that is the one!

No issues! (Well, okay, I haven't had time to look really hard, but I don't expect to find any anyhow.) Thank you for 64 bits!

Now it's just about time to upgrade the Mac to OS Catalina.

As for loyalty--how could we be other than loyal to THE best database app since the early Palm Pilot days!
