unwanted popup values

Postby michaelgreen » Tue Mar 29, 2011 1:48 am

Hi All,
I'm new to HanDBase (as of last week) so this might be a stupid question ...

When I populate a popup field with three legal values (low, medium, high) I also get the options at runtime to select "no value" and "edit popup list". I cannot permit either of these options to be available to real users otherwise they will use them - the last item could be disastrous. How can I get around this?

With many thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi there,

Thanks for your post and question. While you can't remove these options from showing in a popup list, you can make editing popup lists not allowed or password protect that operation. Go to DB Properties, Security and you should see a section for Access Permissions. Within this section you can find the Edit Popups option and disable or password protect it from use. The menu option will still show but when they select it, it will either prompt for a password or indicate it's not permitted. I know that's not as elegant as just hiding the option, but for now this is how it's done. Unfortunately No Value can't be eliminated from the list of popups. One option you may consider is this:

Use a text field instead of a popup field.
Create a form that does not allow editing of the text field, but showing it as a label.
Now the popup list won't have No Value and there will be no way to set it to anything other than what is in the list.

Hope this helps!
