Is it possible to create a database or modify database properties using handbase for mac desktop version? I am using the trial version right now and I need to know if there is a difference between the trial version and the registered version. Also, I have created a database on my ipad that has a field that accesses a database popup for its value. When I try to modify this database on the desktop, nothing happens when I click on the down arrow to modify that field. I have made sure that the database associated with the field is uploaded in the same folder and open. Also, it allows me to edit the field manually even though its field type is dbpopup.

Please Help
Thanks
Shelley

Hi Shelley,

Thanks for your post. The limitations you are seeing are the same in the registered version as well. The Desktop on Mac is a somewhat basic tool at this time and though I plan on expanding that capability, DB Properties, Forms, Encryption and Relational features are absent from the product. Because of the Relational features not being implemented, that's why you are unable to follow a DB Popup. But as an aside, you can edit the value of a DB Popup field directly even on the versions on the iPad, iPhone, Android, etc. That's always been a text field with a drop down that then takes you to the other database table to pick a value.

One of the things I do for registered Mac customers is offer a version of the Windows desktop that is modified to run on the Mac. It's basically a package of the Windows desktop along with a wine engine to interpret the program and while it looks really out of place on Mac, it does give you all of the abilities that are lacking in the Mac native version. It's kind of a stop gap solution until I'm able to bring the Mac desktop up, feature-wise.

I can't give you an exact date as to when those features will be added, but I will say that this is on my dev calendar for this year. Hopefully I'll be able to reach that goal!
