Question/Observation on relationships

This forum is for application developers who are integrating HanDBase into their solutions via the HanDBase API (HAPI) or other means. It's also a great place to discuss runtime development.

In the referenced discussion on unique numbers, a device ID was mentioned. How would you create that deviceID without it being overwritten during a sync operation?

Values used within unique field generation should be static, meaning that they would not be altered anywhere. For example if you were using a combination of date, time, an incrementing number from a calculation and a name, these values would populate automatically upon record generation whether you were using the desktop or handheld. No editing of them would actually occur in either place.

The only time an id type of field would be changed on a sync is if it were a calculation or conditional field, those fields are recalculated from time to time. If you're using the default value of a text field or similar, or a unique field those fields are not changed or recalculated so they would stay the same.
