not syncing between iphone and windows 10 desktop

Postby fritzmom » Fri Apr 02, 2021 8:17 pm

Hi everyone, been a while since I've been here.

I haven't been syncing between desktop and phone for a few months, well almost a year now!

Anyhow, went to sync today and my iPhone 7 and Windows 10 desktop are 'paired', but there is no syncing.

Looking at the Log, the last time there was a sync was Aug of 2020 which is the last time I synced. This PC was new in July of 2020 so it did sync with my phone.

The preferences are set to 'default', - synchronize this database, for all my DBs.

What am I missing??

Thanks
Barb

Are you getting an error message?

if so, what is the message?

if not, what are the entries into the log?

What version of iOS are you running on your iPhone?
Have a good day

Hi Curt

OK, I've been looking and discovered that my iPhone HAS synced with the Desktop BUT it's NOT syncing with the Desktop Folder/File DBs that I had.

After a few months of non-syncing, I finally synced again on Mar 21/21. I never confirmed that my phone and desktop were correctly synced.

I again synced between phone and desktop on Apr 2/21. This is when I discovered that my phone and desktop were NOT in sync.

Now, I see that the phone is syncing with a Folder called 'iPhone' and NOT with my original Folder called 'Barb'siPhone'. This Folder, called 'iPhone' was CREATED on Mar 21/21. It did NOT exist before then. I backup before syncing and I've got backups going back to 2019. This 'iphone' Folder has not existed until now.

When I go to sync from the desktop, I see the Manage iDevice Users screen. Lists both Barb'siPhone and iPhone. Barb'siPhone is highlighted. I hit Synchronize and the screen with the 'address' pops up. This is the same address I see on my phone when I hit the synchronize icon. I synchronize, see that something is happening, but the phone is syncing with iPhone (which seems to have been created last month), and not Barb'siPhone.

So I guess my question now is, how do I get my phone to sync with the proper 'user' called Barb'siPhone?
editing this reply.
On Mar 21/21 I had to re-input that address because we went from a broadband type internet service to fibre optic cable and this was the first time syncing since that change. So it looks like I created a new user without meaning to. But again, how do I sync properly??

Thanks

Hi Barb,

At this point, there is something that is crossed and not working right. I don't think it was the switch to a different service provider, and what you are describing I have never seen or heard of before.

Here is what I would do to try to get it working correctly again.

  • I would delete all users under the Configure/Sync->iPhone/iPad/Touch users.
  • Highlight each user in the box and click on the Delete User button
  • Once all users have been deleted, check the Name of your iPhone. Go to Settings->General->About and look for the name.If you want to chenge the name, just press on the name and that will be the screen to change the name. If you change the name, then you should cold boot the iPhone.
  • Go back to your Windows computer, and set up a new partnership.
  • Got through a full initial sync and check to makes sure that you have only one user in the box.

That should fix the issues, but if you are seeing anything out of the ordinary, let me know what you are seeing.

Take care
Have a good day

Curt

Hi Curt

Thanks for the detailed instructions.

You mention to check the name of the phone. Well, it's always been Barb's iPhone until now. For whatever reason it's now just iPhone. I haven't updated the OS, still at 12.1.4 and nothing 'strange' has happened to the phone.

But if the phone's name changed, then might that have created the new 'user' called iPhone?

Now I'm going to see what would have caused the phone to change it's name! I really can do without tech glitches!

Thanks again Curt

Now we know why you have a second entry in the sync box.

Which iPhone do you have?

I am just curious why you are still running iOS 12?

Hi Curt

I've got an OLD iPhone 7. I was going to update it last summer, but was advised not to. Was told that the jump from 12.1 to the latest iOS might do more 'harm' than good. It was like, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Realizing that my phone is probably on it's last legs, I'm just going to wait until I get a new phone. However, this one seems to be still working; although now I'm not so sure!
